MANSFIELD -- Three men being detained by immigration officials cut through a wire mesh fence Sunday and escaped from the Mansfield Law Enforcement Center.
It was discovered that the inmates, who were being held by the Immigration and Naturalization Service for deportation, were missing about 2:30 p.m. during a head count at the 240- bed facility.
Mansfield uses the facility as a city jail and leases most of the beds to the INS.
The escapees were not being held on any criminal charges, police said.
Mansfield, Arlington and Fort Worth police used dogs and a helicopter to search for the men, who were not found Sunday night.
